18 Karat Yellow Gold

18k (75%) gold is the purest form of gold used for jewelry (pure 100% gold is 24 karats by definition). 18k means that 18 out of the 24 parts that make up the gold are pure gold. The most common hallmark stamps for 18 karat gold are 18K or 750 that indicate 75% gold purity. 18k yellow gold is an alloy made up of 75% pure gold and 25% alloy (12.5% copper, 12.5% silver).

Spessartite

Spessartine, previously called spessartite, is one of the most rare forms of garnet. Because of its bright orange color, it is also known as Mandarin garnet. The name spessartine comes from the Spessart district of Bavaria, Germany. Until 1991, gem quality forms of spessartine were rare. In 1991 however, gem quality stones (Mandarin garnets) were discovered at Kombat Mine, Otavi, in northern Namibia. These gem quality discoveries continued afterwards, and beautiful specimen continue to be found in Nigeria and Fujian, China. Depending on its chemical composition, the stone can range in color from orange to dark red, reddish brown, orange-pink, orange-red, brownish yellow and sometimes almost black. Bright orange specimen, however, are the most highly prized.

Sapphire

Sapphires are, together with Rubies, the most popular gem varieties of Corundum. With a Mohs scale rating of 9, Corundum is the second hardest mineral, second to diamond. Sapphire is any color of corundum except red (Rubies are red corundum). Vivid, transparent blue is the most rare and prized color. Stones from Kashmir or Burma are often fine quality and are highly coveted. As with rubies, some cabochon cut stones exhibit a cat's eye or 6-rayed star. With a rating of 9 on the Mohs Scale, sapphires are extremely durable and ideal for jewelry. As September's birthstone, the sapphire symbolizes truth, love, wisdom and generosity.
